The Garden in March

A review of the garden in March.  I'm a bit obsessed with the light from sunrise.

I planted these hellebores three years ago, and this is the first year they have blossomed.  They are slow to get established, but I've read that they will self seed.  Oh, I hope that they do; I love them.

Thanks for visiting.

Candles and Daffodils

I love collecting candle holders from thrift stores and spray painting them to give them new life.
These candle holders were painted with Krylon in Dover White.

This vignette includes daffodils from my garden, which are in a blue vase from a thrift store.  I also love collecting blue and white.

This is a before photo of one of the candle holders above.  It's amazing what a can of spray paint can do!

Kevin Costner, Kate from Centsational Girl and Wildwood Creek

What does Kevin Costner, Kate from Centsational Girl and Wildwood Creek have in common? Read on.

I was reading an inspiring and entertaining blog post today from The Yellow Cape Cod.  While reading and scrolling down to view the design board, the above photo took my breath away.  That is my dresser I painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Aubusson Blue--oh my!

You must read this adventurous post from The Yellow Cape Cod.  Hint:  it includes Kate from Centsational Girl and Kevin Costner from Robin Hood.

This dresser was my second painted project on my new blog a year ago.

I don't think the original photos were even edited.  At that point I didn't know much about blogging; I was just happy I could figure out how to publish a post.

I still feel like I'm learning so much from blogging, but looking back, I've come a long way.

Thank you The Yellow Cape Cod for featuring my dresser in your design board!

Aldo Leopold Bench

To spy an Aldo Leopold bench in someone’s yard is to know something about the family
who there resides.  Even if you haven’t read Leopold’s opening lines, “There are some
who can live without wild things, and some who cannot.  These essays are the delights and
dilemmas of one who cannot,” from A Sand County Almanac.

Mr. Wildwood built this bench several years ago.  I'd love to have a few more scattered throughout our property.

Pinterest Project - The Good, Bad and Ugly

The good:  I love blue, green and anything in between.  When I saw these sea glass mosaic trays on Pinterest, I knew I wanted to make one.

The cast of characters:  Acrylpro, Pre-Mixed Grout, sea glass and a white painted tray.

The bad:  I had a huge bag of sea glass; however, when sorting through the glass, I found only a small amount that would work for this project.  Some of the glass was way too thick and uneven to be used in a tray.  Therefore, I had wide spaces between the glass, and I filled in with the round glass buttons.

The ugly:  Ok, maybe it's not ugly, but it didn't turn out as I had envisioned.

What I'd do different next time:  I would use regular tiles and sprinkle the sea glass throughout (like the second photo).

White & Duck Egg Blue Hutch

I painted this hutch with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in White and Duck Egg Blue.

The top was stripped and stained with Minwax Dark Walnut.  I used the soft wax as the final step.

I'm not sure if I'm going to put the doors back on the hutch or not.  For now I like the open look without the doors.

My assistant, Smokey, insisted that the vignette be adjusted.

This is a look at the before.
